To be blunt, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds is basically Age of Kings with Star Wars units. You have the option of playing as one of six factions from the movies: the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire, the Wookies, the Gungans, the Trade Federation, or the citizens of Naboo, each of which comes with its own set of buildings and units akin to Age of King’s civilizations.

LucasArts updated the official Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds site with new screenshots and a new designer diary entry from the game's lead artist, Chris Williams. Williams says that Galactic Battlegrounds has just hit the alpha stage of development and that the development team has finished incorporating the design of every structure and unit into the game. He also adds that the art team is going to work on the hero characters--such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, C3PO, and Boss Nass--as well as some other famous Star Wars creatures like the Rancor. The entire team is continuing to work on touching up the details within the game's environments and balancing the units in both multiplayer and single-player modes.
