Sylvester Samuels better known by his stage name Lil Ru, is an American rapper from Columbia, South Carolina currently signed to Def Jam Recordings. His debut album, 21 & Up was released on August 25, 2009. His hard-hitting lyrics and entrepreneurial spirit caught the attention of fellow South Carolinian Angie Stone. Lil' Romeo (now known simply as 'Romeo'), American actor and rapper Lil' Ronnie, American music producer Lil Rounds, a contestant on Season 8 of American Idol. Sylvester Samuels better known by his stage name Lil Ru, is an American rapper signed to Def Jam Recordings. His debut album, 21 & Up was released on August 25, 2009.

Key is mind. Whatever that means, Lil Ru believes in it, as well he should. It is obvious, since this is the title of this mixtape from the Presidential Music founder, also a Def Jam signee, this is something Ru wanted to dedicate to his sister, Kim 'FirstLady' Eley, who lost her life to a heart attack in early December, as detailed in the final song on the mixtape, 'KIM (Key Is Mind).' This is one of many mixtapes from Ru, known for his only album, 21 & Up, which spawned the hit 'Nasty Song'. Biography

A South Carolinian with a self-described 'gumbo of crunk, snap, and other popular Southern rap styles,' Lil' Ru earned his first stutter-start as a teenager in 2001 when fellow Palmetto-stater Angie Stone took him under her wing and got him inked to Elektra Records. While label shake-ups would stall the MC's breakthrough, Lil' Ru continued to compose local classics, his trawling drawl only a slight bit less guttural than Lil Jon's. By 2009, the rapper had rebounded to Capitol Records and had a breaking hit with the strip club-touting 'Nasty Song,' off his debut 21 and Up. ~ Jason Thurston
